if your thinking of getting a high definition DVD player then look no further than the Sony PS3, its probably the least expensive and most functional unit around. I have just got a TV and home cinema system that takes advantage of the 1080p video signal and Dolby digital and DTS 5.1 surround. As you are probably aware the PS3 has an optical output that will fit most home cinema and amplifier units. Currently the bluray disks that can be used in the PS3 are out selling HD counterparts ( for use on HD players and the xbox 360) 6 to 1, ain't I glad I sold my xbox 360!
I noticed that on first connecting the PS3 to the full HD tv that there was a less than perfect picture, it was grainy and the colours were banded quite badly. I checked in the display settings to make sure that it was running 1080p, and it was? So I powered of the PS3 at the mains, then when I powered it up it noticed that it had been connected to a different LCD and went through the setup, picture is now amazing! Next step was to change the audio output settings to the digital optical output which was already connected the home cinema system. So now games and movies benefit from the 5.1 surround system, and so do we, for the cost of going to the cinema we can own a bluray movie and enjoy it in the comfort of our own easy chairs for as long as we like, and in higher fidelity.
